Mosaic Gallery 8 - #142
|
|

|
7/01/02 - This is the business card
of my current client. I've been asked to recreate the logo for a
wall plaque in his office. I will mosaic the oval surrounding the
"M," (which was taken from the one dollar bill) and the
"M." The background will be 2 x 2 tiles proportional
to the image on their letterhead. |
|

|
7/11/04 - Here the frame has been
made and oiled. The image drawn onto the backing and the tiles
picked and coordinated. |
 |
7/9/04 - I've completed the
"M." At first I didn't think I could outline the
"M" much less shadow it, but I was able to add this detail and
it adds so much dimension to the piece! I'm waiting for the
"Bayberry" tile to come in, as that's the next most important
design element. Everything will work off that circle. |
 |
7/21/04 - After much
deliberation, I phoned my client and asked for a change order to the
project. We originally were going to grout using only one color, a
beautiful Sable Brown. But after much deliberation, I decided that
grouting the off-white tiles in the same color would be a mistake,
because it would emphasize the grid affect and take away from the logo.
I'm so happy my client agreed. Now all I have to do is grout this piece
in two different colors. I'm so nervous!!! |
 |
7/22/04 - Early this
morning, I grouted the logo, now the piece just has to dry.
Then I'll clean the grout off the logo, allow to dry, then cover the logo
with tape and grout the surrounding off-white tiles
in "Bone ." In the meantime, I'm going to glue down the
surrounding tiles and shape them around the oval. |
 |
7/26/04 - Finished at last. Center logo
is grouted in Sable Brown. Off-white tiles grouted in
"Bone." Click image for larger view.

Sometimes you begin a job and have a course
of action as to how you're
going to accomplish your
project and over time it changes. As you work with the colors,
the design and the tile, the artwork in a sense speaks to you. Here,
I detailed the "M" much more than I thought
possible. Also, using two grout colors instead of one added
more time and attention to the grouting process. But in this case, I
think it will make a huge difference in the finished result; an important
extra effort. Thanks Flamingo Fanny!
